Once a thriving Greek village, this ghost town was completely deserted in 1923 when 25,000 Greek inhabitants were repatriated to Greece in the population exchange following the Greek war of independence.

There were about 2,500 inhabitants in about 500 houses. Count them on Google. "Greek war of independence"? You'll need to research that. "Greek attempt to conquer Asia Minor" is better.
